OR Hydrastis, with Latin name Hydrastis canadensis, also known as goldenseal, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Ranunculaceae family. Native to North America, it grows in shady forests and moist, rich soils. It has a thick, yellow-orange rhizome, which is its main medicinal part. The flowers are inconspicuous. Its fruits are red, fleshy, with an appearance similar to raspberries, but they are not edible.
