The Liatris Spicata, commonly known as "blazing star", is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, found mainly in North America. It grows in moist and sunny soils, reaching a height of 60-100 cm with characteristic flowering stems bearing white or purple flowers in spicate inflorescences.
Chemical composition:
- Terpenes (e.g., alpha- and beta-pinene)
- Flavonoids (e.g., luteolin)
- Saponins
- Polyphenols (e.g., chlorogenic acid)
Pharmacological properties and actions:
- Anti-inflammatory action: Its saponins and flavonoids Liatris spicata have been shown to reduce inflammatory reactions.
- Diuretic action: Liatris spicata tincture is traditionally used for its diuretic effect.
- Antioxidant action: Polyphenols protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
- Calming action: The plant is traditionally used to relieve stress and promote relaxation.
Indications for use:
- Inflammation relief: In cases of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis.
- Urinary system disorders: It helps with urination and relief from edematous conditions.
- Stressful situations: It is used for calming and relieving anxiety.
- Antioxidant protection: It contributes to protection against cellular damage and aging.
How to use
20-30 drops in a little water or decoction, 1-2 times a day.
Precautions/Side Effects:
- Contraindicated for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
- Possible allergic reactions: Rare cases of skin rashes or other allergic reactions.
- Interactions with diuretic drugs: It may enhance the effect of other diuretic medications.
- Caution in people with serious kidney problems.
