Characteristics of Chamomile
The chamomile is a widely known medicinal plant of the Asteraceae family. Two main species are used for their therapeutic properties: the German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) and the Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). It is a low plant with small, white flowers that resemble daisies, and aromatic leaves. It is grown in temperate climates and blooms mainly in spring and summer. The essential oil is extracted from the flowers, mainly through steam distillation.
