The Balota foetida tincture, also known as myrmigkia or vrosimi or valoti, is prepared from the Balota foetida plant, which belongs to the Lamiaceae family. This tincture is used in traditional phytotherapy for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sedative properties.

Composition of the Balota foetida Tincture

Contains:

  • Essential oils
  • Flavonoids
  • Polyphenols
  • Glycosides
  • Saponins

Pharmacological Actions and Properties

  1. Anti-inflammatory effect

    • Helps reduce inflammation and relieves pain associated with inflammatory conditions.

  2. Soothing - Antispasmodic

    • Soothes cough and is a mild mucolytic

  3. Antiemetic - Nausea

    • Reduces the feeling of nausea, especially while traveling.

Indications for Use

  • Inflammatory diseases (e.g. arthritis)
  • Infections (e.g. colds, flu)
  • Anxiety and nervousness
  • Travel sickness – antiemetic

Dosage

  • Internal use: 10–20 drops in a little water or herbal infusion, 1–2 times per day.

Precautions and Side Effects

  • Contraindicated: In individuals with known allergies to Balota foetida or other members of the Lamiaceae family.
  • Possible side effects: Mild gastrointestinal discomfort, allergic reactions.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The Balota foetida tincture is used for relief from inflammations, infections and digestive problems. Its use should be carried out with caution and proper guidance, especially in individuals with sensitivities or underlying conditions.
