Chondrus crispus is a red alga (Rhodophyta), also known as Irish Moss, which thrives on the northern coasts of the Atlantic (Ireland, Scotland, Canada).
Its characteristic feature is the rich polysaccharide gel it forms when boiled, which has been traditionally used to support the respiratory system, digestion and the skin.
