Zea mays is an annual plant widely cultivated for its grain, maize (corn). It belongs to the Poaceae family. The stigmas (the silks from the flower styles) of the plant, known as "corn silk", are used for medicinal purposes and are one of the parts of the plant with pharmaceutical value.
