Characteristics of the Jojoba plant

The jojoba plant, or Simmondsia chinensis, is a woody, evergreen shrub that grows in America, specifically in the southwestern United States. It belongs to the Simmondsiaceae family. It prefers well-drained soils and is resistant to desert conditions.
The grayish-green color of its leaves and the shape of its fruit resemble the Mediterranean olive. The shrub can reach a height of 1.5–2 meters. Many animals find shelter under its dense foliage, while rodents and birds feed on its fruits.
The plant blooms from March to May. The fruit that results from the flowering contains about 50% oil. This oil shows high resistance to oxidation and stability at high temperatures.

History
There are early references to the use of the fatty fruit by the indigenous peoples of the American continent, who prepared a type of ointment to treat burns, wounds and other skin conditions. In later years, around 1770, systematic cultivation of the plant began.
Thanks to the valuable properties of the fruit and the economic value its exploitation brings today, in recent decades the cultivation of the jojoba tree has spread to other countries such as Egypt, Israel, India and Australia.
It is considered an essential ingredient in cosmetic and therapeutic products for face and hair.

Chemical composition of jojoba oil
- 40–50% oil, esters of monounsaturated long-chain fatty acids, 11-eicosenol, 13-eicosenol and 15-tetracosenol.
- Fatty / Carboxylic acids: Arachidonic acid, behenic acid, 13.6% erucic acid, lignoceric acid, nervonic acid, 11.2% oleic acid, palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid.
- Sterols, flavonoids which have been evaluated for their hepatoprotective action. - 20–30% proteins.
- Vitamins and trace elements: B-complex vitamins, vitamin E, copper, zinc, 82% iodine, chromium.
- The chemical structure of the oil is similar to human skin sebum.

Directions for use
- Use jojoba oil together with laurel oil as a mask on irritated and dry scalp. Gently massage from roots to ends and leave on for 2 hours. Then wash your hair with warm water.*

- It is suitable for facial cleansing and as a makeup remover. Apply a small amount of jojoba oil to a cotton pad and gently cleanse the face of impurities and makeup.
- Mix rose essential oil with jojoba oil and apply with upward circular motions on the décolleté, neck and face after your evening routine.* Jojoba oil contains B-complex vitamins and vitamin E, known for preserving the skin’s youthfulness. Combined with rose essential oil, it helps the face delay the signs of aging.

- Ideal for preparing men’s skin before shaving and afterwards as an after shave. Jojoba oil contains iodine and helps prevent irritation and infections after shaving. It is easily absorbed without leaving greasiness.
