The balm is also known in Latin as Hypericum Perforatum (St.Johns Wort) is one of the strongest and most effective plants used in skin diseases, especially through its regenerative and healing action. It is placed on open or old wounds, in skin diseases and in inflammations. It can also be swallowed as a treatment for stomach ulcers. This particular herb is a treasure of Greek nature but requires special treatment because it is quite sensitive. We extract it by cold pressing in a special olive oil mixture which gives it its light reddish color.

Herb characteristics

St. John's wort is known to all of us as Hypericum perforatum, swordwort, Forerunner herb or turtlewort.

It is an evergreen plant with a height of up to 80 points - 1 meter and belongs to the Hypericaceae family. It is native and we will find it in the Mediterranean countries, the rest of Europe, Africa, the Asian continent and in many places across the planet. In our country there are several different species of Hypericum and most of them are endemic.

The plant can grow even in the poorest, dry and rocky soils, it is recognized by its yellow flowers, which consist of 5 petals, while the central part of the flower includes the stigmas that give the characteristic red color to the balsamic oil or infusion.

The useful parts of the plant used are the flowers, which should be collected with the first cool drops of dawn, when their oils are at their highest concentration.

History of St. John's wort

It is said that the herb got its name, Hypericum, because in ancient times it was used to decorate temples and during religious ceremonies it was placed on the icons (hyper – icon = on the image).

Balsamwort has been valued by the famous herbalists of ancient Greece, Hippocrates, Dioscorides, Pliny and Galen, with which they treated burns, joint pains, improved blood flow and used it as a tonic in the recovery process.

It has been used for embalming and this is one of the reasons it is also called balsam.

Ingredients

Natural Mountain St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum), Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

- 0.05 – 0.09% essential oils (2- methyloctanes, α-β-pinenes, α-terpineol and traces of myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene).

- 5 – 12% tannins

Additional compounds it contains to a lesser extent are acids (stearic, myristic, nicotinic, palmitic), carotenoids, choline, pectin, hydrocarbons and long-chain alcohols.
Some amino acids such as leucine, cysteine, glutamine, lysine and GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) have also been isolated from the herb.

Instructions for Use

Balsamic oil is prepared by soaking the flowers in a carrier oil, e.g. almond oil or sunflower oil, with the most traditional recipe being pure virgin olive oil.

It effectively treats colds, neuralgia, tendon injuries and neck pain.

It combines well with lavender and chamomile essential oil to relieve sunburn by reducing skin temperature.

It soothes the nervous system and reduces emotional fluctuations during menopause.

The oil is suitable for those who need to balance the solar plexus (external application) and get rid of possible accompanying symptoms of digestive disorders, stomach and intestine.

According to Chinese medicine, St. John's wort oil, when applied to specific parts of the body, removes unnecessary heat and purifies the blood from toxins. It regulates the vital energy Qi, the liver and calms the mind from phobias and sadness.
