CHARACTERISTICS OF HYPERICUM PERFORATUM

St. John's wort is known to all of us as Hypericum perforatum, sphathochorto, Forerunner herb, St. John's wort.
It is an evergreen low plant and belongs to the Hypericaceae family. It is native and we will find it in the Mediterranean zone and the rest of Europe, Africa, the Asian continent and in many places across the planet. In our country there are several different species of Hypericum and most of them are endemic.
The plant can grow even in the poorest, dry and rocky soils, and is recognized by its yellow flowers, which consist of 5 petals, while the central part of the flower includes the stigmas that give it the characteristic red color.

HISTORY

It is said that the herb got its name, hypericum, because in ancient times it was used to decorate temples and during religious ceremonies it was placed on icons (hyper – icon = on the icon).
St. John's wort was valued by the famous herbalists of ancient Greece, Hippocrates, Dioscorides, Pliny and Galen, who used it to treat burns, joint pain, improve blood flow and as a tonic in the recovery process. It has been used for embalming, which is one of the reasons it is also called balsam.

Dioscorides, the leading herbalist of antiquity, mentions four species of Hypericum which he recommends for sciatica, when drunk with honey and water while
Culpeper, who loved to attribute astrological signs to medicinal herbs, states that St. John's wort is under the celestial sign of Leo and the dominion of the Sun.

Known as Guan Ye Lian Qiao, it is used to cleanse the body of heat, toxins, balances the movement of Qi in the blood and liver. It is also recommended for its anxiolytic and antidepressant properties. It activates the meridians of the heart, bladder, spleen and lungs.

Alcohol (in variable proportions 50% - 90%), leaves and flowers of St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum).
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF HYPERICUM PERFORATUM
Hypericin, flavonoids, rutin, quercetin, hyperforin (the main substance that gives the plant its antidepressant properties), essential oils, tannins, carotenoids, glycosides, volatile oils.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

- 30 drops diluted in 1/2 glass of water.
- 1-2 times a day for a specific period of time or as directed by the doctor.
