Characteristics of Jasmine

Jasmine belongs to the Oleaceae family and is native to central Asia, a region where many different varieties of the plant grow.
The green foliage of jasmine is maintained throughout the year and is particularly resistant to drought and heat. It is favored by sunshine while being sensitive to cold and frost. It is easy to grow and can thrive even in infertile soil as long as there is good drainage. Depending on the variety, the height of the plant can reach up to 10 meters. The flowering of the plant differs depending on the type of jasmine and occurs from early spring to late autumn.
Some of the most well-known varieties that also grow in other parts of the world are the common or medicinal jasmine (Jasminum officinale), the large or Chian jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum), the yellow jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum), and the Arabian jasmine or phouli (Jasmine sambac).

History of Jasmine

The name Jasmine comes from the Persian word Yasmin, which means "gift from God." From ancient times to the present day, in Eastern countries, women often wear jasmine in their hair. Also, brides wear a garland of jasmine and roses around their necks as a symbol of purity and passion. In China, jasmine is a symbol of feminine sweetness, divine love, purity of the soul, awareness and spiritual awakening.
The flower is also sacred in India and the Himalayas, and the people of the country know the deeply calming effect of jasmine. Thus, its oil is rubbed on the forehead to promote feelings of well-being, optimism and happiness. Jasmine is the sacred flower of Kama, the God of Love in India, and is considered an aphrodisiac. Pure jasmine oil is very expensive and is often used in cosmetology and perfume production.
It is also called "queen of the night" because its scent intensifies after sunset.
