Ilex aquifolium, commonly known as holly, is an evergreen tree of the Aquifoliaceae family. It can grow up to 10 meters tall. Its leaves are leathery, glossy, and dark green, with distinctive spiny edges. Its flowers are small, white or pale green, and appear in spring. Its fruits are small, red, spherical berries that remain on the plant throughout the winter. It grows in forests and shady areas of Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia.
