CHARDON MARIE – SILYBUM CHARACTERISTICS
Silybum marianum is a type of milk thistle. It is known by different names such as milk thistle, milk thistle, Chardon Marie, It is an annual or biennial plant of the Asteraceae family.
Thistle can reach 30 centimeters to 2 meters in height. It has a conical shape and its stem is covered by a cottony surface which is surrounded by large lanceolate hard leaves that end in pointed and thick thorns at the ends. The flower heads, red-purple in color, bloom in our country from June to August.
Silybum marianum chooses to grow in sunny places and we will find it in many countries across the globe as a cultivated plant or as a wild, native plant in meadows and mountain foothills.
HISTORY
The name Milk Thistle comes from its leaves which are sticky due to the milky sap they contain.
The Roman herbalist Pliny described milk thistle as “excellent for the removal of bile.” The ancient Greeks and Romans used milk thistle to treat snakebites and liver diseases. Although it has been used as a medicine for over 2,000 years in many cultures, it is often treated as an invasive weed.
Roasted milk thistle seeds have been used in the past as a coffee substitute.
Today, milk thistle is mainly cultivated as a medicinal plant, but is sometimes also used as a food source, mainly in Europe but also in Asia and North America.

CHINESE MEDICINE – AYURVEDA
In China, milk thistle (Da Ji), is used specifically to protect the liver, increase bile production, and protect against oxidative exposure, including oxidative exposure from radiation treatments.
Its consumption cleanses the blocked liver and heart meridians, eliminates stagnation and accumulated fire in the blood, is a diuretic and reduces edema.
In Ayurvedic medicine, milk thistle is used to boost immunity, treat psoriasis, acne, and skin diseases due to increased pitta (fire), and as a liver tonic.
RECOMMENDATION
Alcohol (in variable proportions 50%-90%), gaseous parts and seeds of the Chardon Marie plant. Drinkable, natural extract from mother tincture (D1).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The Chardon Marie preparation can be used either as a first remedy, or alternately with other more specialized tinctures.
1. In combination or alternately with Chicoree, to reduce bad cholesterol (LDL).
2. In combination or alternately with Radis Noir to reduce gallstones.
- 30 drops diluted in 1/2 glass of water.
- 1-2 times a day for a specific period of time or as directed by the doctor.
- 20' before eating
