Characteristics of Cedar
The cedar is an evergreen tree that belongs to the Pinaceae family. There are different species of cedar, the most famous of all is the species Cedrus atlantica. Its height reaches over 30 meters and to achieve this it takes about 50 years, which is the age of full maturity of the tree. It usually grows in the mountains near fir trees. Its trunk is large and its foliage has an irregular and bulky shape.
Its growth is favored by direct contact with the sun, even in the most barren soils. It adapts easily to temperature changes and is a tree resistant to frost (up to -20 degrees Celsius) and drought. It belongs to the coniferous trees, like the pine, as it develops upright cones with a flat or sunken top. The cedar is a perennial tree with impressive blue-green needles that, together with the resin of the trunk, give off a
unique woody aroma.
Cedarwood essential oil is light orange and is distilled from the wood and needles of the tree using the hydrodistillation method.
