STRONG HAIR FOR ALL SEASONS

Rich and shiny hair is the mirror of beauty and an important factor from which we can derive information about nutritional deficiencies, our psychological mood and the overall state of health. There is no doubt that strong hair is the common desire that concerns everyone regardless of complexion and age.

What hair is made of – Hair structure

Our hair consists of a protein, keratin, the main substance that gives color to hair, melanin, and lipids, which are produced by the sebaceous glands of the head. The purpose of lipids is hydration, elasticity and protection of the hair.

Each hair has a programmed life cycle, which consists of 3 phases:
1. Anagen phase: It is the phase of the birth and growth of the hair and lasts from 3-6 years. It is estimated that around 85% of our hair is constantly in this phase.
2. Congenital phase : It is the transitional phase immediately after the completion of development. It lasts 2-3 weeks and during this time the recurrence of the hair develops which concerns about 1% of the hair.
3. Telogen phase : The final stage of the hair characterized by the phase of apoptosis and lasts 2-3 months. About 14% of our hair is in this phase.

Seasonal hair loss
Every day we lose about 40-80 hairs, while it is completely normal to observe increased hair loss during the change of season, especially in autumn. Seasonal hair loss lasts 3-8 weeks and occurs mainly in the autumn months. It is a common phenomenon in the countries of the Mediterranean zone since the heat of the summer, excessive exposure to the sun and the salt of the sea, suffer the hair, resulting in hair loss in the following months.

Illness and Anxiety
Hormonal disorders, thyroid diseases and some medications may increase the catagen and telogen phase of apoptosis. Hair loss associated with thyroid disorders shows persistent signs of hair health and should not be neglected. Additionally, stress is considered one of the biggest enemies that literally drains our body of nutrients. During periods of intense stress, thinning, thinning of the hair and weak hair have been observed.

Nutrition for strong hair
A daily balanced diet is one of the most important factors in preventing hair loss. The foods that need to be on our plate often are fresh fruits and vegetables (source of vitamins, trace elements, minerals), consumption of protein, Ω3,6,9, olive oil, avocado (rich source of vitamin E, D), nuts and legumes.
Nutritional deficiencies can directly affect the first stage of hair growth and cause hair loss. Anemia, low levels of B12, vitamin D3, folic acid and a diet low in protein are the most important causes of hair loss.

Dietary supplements and Phytotherapy to treat it
hair loss
Taking nutritional supplements and phytotherapy is considered essential for the prevention and treatment of hair loss. The necessary ingredients they contain are:
-Cysteine: Sulfide amino acid found in the basic hair protein, keratin. It enhances hair thickening and binds free radicals.
-Silicon: Contributes to hair regeneration and stabilizes the hair in the follicle.
-Iron: Iron deficiency leads directly to anemia, which is characterized by insufficient tissue oxygenation since the amount of hemoglobin is reduced. Including
symptoms, anemia causes weak hair and hair loss.
-Folic acid: Its lack causes a decrease in red blood cells which leads to weakness of the body and anemia.
-Vitamin B12: Its deficiency causes weakness of the whole body and hair loss. B12 is necessary for the absorption of iron and folic acid.
-Calcium: Contributes to the absorption of iron and B12. The ideal levels of calcium in the body prevent hair thinning.
-Zinc: The antioxidant effects of zinc enhance the smooth life cycle of the hair.
-Copper : Helps absorb iron which is a key factor for hair nourishment.
-Vitamin E: Protects the cells of the skin and gives elasticity and hydration to the hair.
-Biotin : It belongs to the B complex and is considered essential for the transport of nutrients to the hair bulb.
-Equizeto (Polytrichi): It is an important herb and one of the richest sources of silicon. It is traditionally used to strengthen hair.
-Hippophaes: Contains iron, silicon, Ω3.6 and folic acid.
- Nettle: Rich source of iron and helps the absorption of folic acid.
-Ashwagandha : Adaptogenic herb, anti-anxiety while at the same time strengthening the hair, contributing to the thickening and stabilization of the hair.
