The Aconitum napellus (Hermes' Helmet or Aconite) is a powerful medicinal plant with toxic properties, used mainly in homeopathic preparations. Due to its dangerous toxicity, its use should only be done under the strict supervision of a specialist.
Chemical Composition of Aconitum napellus Tincture:
The tincture comes from the fresh above-ground parts of the plant or the roots and contains:
- Alkaloids: acotitine (the main active and toxic alkaloid)
- Lycoctone and neocotin
- Flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds
Pharmacological Actions and Properties:
1. Analgesic
- Relieves acute pain, mainly of a neuralgic nature, such as sciatica and neuritis.
2. Antipyretic
- Traditionally used to reduce fever, especially in situations of sudden and high temperature increase.
3. Anxiolytic and sedative
- It is indicated in cases of intense anxiety, panic and tachycardia, especially when symptoms appear suddenly.
4. Anti-inflammatory
- In homeopathic doses, it can help with joint inflammation and muscle cramps.
5. Cardiotonic (in homeopathic applications)
- Regulates tachycardia and palpitations caused by stress.
Indications for Use:
- Neuralgia and severe headaches.
- Acute infections: Colds and flu with sudden fever.
- Panic and insomnia with intense tachycardia.
- Arthritis and muscle pain.
Dosage:
- Tincture: 10 - 20 drops 1-2 times a day in a little water or decoction. The use of the pure tincture is recommended after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions and Side Effects:
- Highly toxic: Ingestion of even small amounts can cause serious side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, cardiac arrhythmias, or paralysis.
- Symptoms of poisoning: Numbness in the mouth, salivation, shortness of breath and heart failure.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Do not combine with other medications, especially cardiotonics or sedatives.
Note:
The pure tincture or plant should be used under the supervision of a doctor or pharmacist.
